Trump's Return to the US Open
On Sunday, US President Donald Trump is set to make his first appearance at the US Open men's final since 2015, enjoying the event from a luxurious suite provided by Rolex at Arthur Ashe Stadium, according to a source familiar with the arrangements.
This visit marks Trump's return to the Grand Slam tennis tournament in New York, where he was a regular attendee prior to his political career. The details of his attendance were not publicly disclosed, leading to the source's request for anonymity.
In the event of any backlash regarding Trump's presence, viewers won't see it during the ABC broadcast of the match featuring top-ranked Jannik Sinner against Carlos Alcaraz. The US Tennis Association has a policy against highlighting off-court disturbances.
The organization stated, 'We regularly ask our broadcasters to refrain from showcasing off-court disruptions.'
Trump, who now resides primarily at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida, previously lived in New York and frequently attended the US Open during those years.
His acceptance of Rolex's suite is particularly notable given the recent imposition of a significant 39 percent tariff on Swiss goods by the Trump administration, which raises questions about Switzerland's competitive edge against the European Union.
This appearance at the US Open follows Trump's participation in various high-profile sporting events, including the Super Bowl, Daytona 500, UFC fights, NCAA wrestling championships, and the FIFA Club World Cup final.
Previously, the Trump Organization held a suite at the US Open, located next to the television broadcasting booth, but they suspended this arrangement in 2017 during Trump's first presidential term.
Having a sitting president at the US Open is a rare occurrence; the last time it happened was in 2000 when Bill Clinton attended. Former President Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle, were present for the opening night in 2023.
